Smart Kids Love Littlebits Gizmos and Gadgets Kit
Kids love this LittleBits Gizmos and Gadgets kit, they are fantastic. In the past I’ve never been able to recommend them for kids. Most of the company’s kits are just not intuitive for novices, nor do they contain everything needed to make gadgets that will keep kids interested. Well, the NYC-based gadget just released LittleBits Gizmos and Gadgets that addresses this issue and it should be perfect for budding makers.
This Kit is the ultimate invention toolbox. Motors, wheels, lights, switches, servos, buzzers, even the tools to build a remote control – snap it all together to spark creativity and fun.
At least 12 gadgets can be made from the LittleBits Gizmos and Gadgets Kit including bubble machines, pinball games and an RC car (video below). There’s even instructions to build a spy box that holds a secret compartment secured with wireless littleBits and a servo that opens the hidden door — and every kid loves spy gear.
The product comes with a LEGO-style board that can hold the littleBits modules. The rest of the gadget is built around this part. This LittleBits Gizmos and Gadgets Kit comes with 15 different electronic parts and a bunch of extra parts like wheels and stickers that can be combined in different ways to build different gadgets. Several of the projects involve adding LEGO bricks and the kit packs the adapters to make the littleBit modules compatible. Unlike past littleBits kits, the Gizmo And Gadgets contains everything needed to make the projects including the required 9 volt batteries. This is key.
The LittleBits Gizmos and Gadgets Kit is self-contained product with great instructions and all the accessories needed to build the fun projects. This kit isn’t just for smart kids. This kit is for every kid (and adult).
Opening up a world of electronics
Open the box and there’s a newspaper-style guide covering the main tray that’s packed with different color-coded components. Each of these electronic building blocks can be easily joined together, and it’s impossible to do it wrong, thanks to LittleBits magnetic interlocking system. There’s a wireless transmitter and receiver, two motors, two sliding dimmer switches, a servo and hub, joining wires, a splitter, and a fan. You also get two power units, and batteries are included.
Lift the tray out, and you’ll find some extras underneath, including Lego-style boards to snap the components onto, along with wheels, cardboard templates, screws, glue dots, and a few other bits and pieces. Everything that you need to complete the ten projects in the guide is here in the LittleBits Gizmos and Gadgets Kit, barring scissors, tape and some colored pens.
Endless possibilities with LittleBits Gizmos and Gadgets Kit
Even within the ten projects listed in the guide, there are suggestions at the end for slight modifications that could take you in new directions. The idea is that through building a range of different projects, kids gain enough understanding of the components to make their own tweaks, possibly coming up with new inventions, or ways to use their existing creations.
You can also download the LittleBits app for free on Android or iOS. It acts as a community portal where other LittleBits inventors share instructions for their own designs. There are videos and step-by-step instructions for each one, making them easy to follow. The quality of these guides is mixed, but there are lots of inventive ideas.
There’s also a Play section in the app which contains challenges to inspire further play and creation. Challenges are varied and interesting, for example, invent a new fashion item and make a video explaining it, create your own spy movie using the spy box invention, or find an electronic item in your home and try to replicate it. Thus LittleBits Gizmos and Gadgets Kit provide endless possibilities for those young inventive kids.
